A couple of weeks ago we were fortunate to have an Ocean Spray® representative visit our offices to talk about the company, the co-op, their juices and using the juices in cocktails. It was a very interesting and informative session. Having come from a New England family, and spending childhood summers in Cape Cod and Boston, I have seen many a cranberry bog. But only visiting the area during the summers, I didn’t know the growth cycle or even how cranberries were harvested. In our session, we learned about bogs, how and when to harvest, where cranberries are grown (not just in Massachusetts!) and that cranberries are one of the few unique fruits to North America.
We learned about another fruit unique to North America, also grown, harvested and sold by Ocean Spray®, the blueberry. And that is our mixer for today’s tipple. There were many drink ideas, which I will make available in a link. The Sourberry Martini is one I tried. This was a refreshing, tart drink; not at all sweet and very enjoyable.

1.5 oz. vodka
0.5 oz. lemon juice
0.5 oz. honey syrup
2 basil leaves
In a cocktail shaker filled with ice combine all ingredients. Shake and strain into a martini glass. Garnish with a blueberry and lemon skewer.
Try a few of the new recipes in the file I upload and share your thoughts along with a picture of your drinks. You can contact us through the comments below or on our Facebook page or on Twitter. Feel free to share any recipes you come up with as well! For information on cranberries, the harvest and other cranberry and blueberry recipes, along with a live camera feed of one of the bogs during this year’s harvest season, please visit the Ocean Spray® website here.
Thank you to Ocean Spray® for sharing their juices with us so we could try out the recipes and work on a few ideas of our own.
